WHAT: PROTEST/FASHION SHOW
WHERE: 255 FRONT STREET, METRO CONVENTION CENTRE
WHEN: Tuesday March 6th, 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM
Join us as we showcase the latest fads in “corporate social responsibility” featuring designs by Barrick Gold, Caterpillar, Pacific Rim, God’s Lake, Gold Corp and many others in the industry. Come in garish and grotesque outfits (or just come as you are!) to let mining companies know that corporate accountability and justice are not aesthetics or skin-deep ‘fashion statements.’ And that, despite their PR and lip-service, their corporate practices are downright ugly. The Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) are throwing their yearly trade show “where the world mineral industry meets.”This is no coincidence. Toronto is the mining capital of the world with more than 2/3 of mining companies based in Canada.
(make sure to stick around for the KI solidarity rally speaking out against God’s Lake
Time and time again, we have witnessed Canadian mining companies operating with impunity on indigenous territory, throughout the Americas, Africa and Asia. Lack of regulation in Canada threatens the survival of communities and the natural environment by contaminating water ways, political persecution of resistance leaders, operating without free prior and informed consent, exacerbating poverty and disrupting food systems. Fundamentally mining companies are violating basic human rights through the facade of ‘voluntary regulation’ which amounts to nothing but lip service. Join us as we demand accountability and justice for mining affected communities.
