On Oct. 26- 29 of this year, over a thousand youth from across the country will converge on Ottawa for Powershift to discuss, strategize, and act on the most pressing environmental issues of our time.

This year, you can help bring frontline environmental defenders from two First Nations to join in on the action.

PowerShift 2012 is a youth-led conference seeking to bring 1500 young people together to tackle climate change head on. PowerShift recognizes that the root causes of the climate crisis are the same causes of social injustices like poverty, racism, and Indigenous land struggles. Through skills- and issue-based workshops, networking opportunities, and strategy sessions, PowerShift 2012 will unite concerned youth around climate justice while giving them the skills and connections to make change from the ground up.

While social programs and critical government agencies are being slashed, PowerShift is fighting to end subsidies to the fossil fuel industry in Canada, amounting to $1.4B each year. Organizers have already presented a bill to the All-Party Caucus on Climate Change in the House of Commons to end all federal subsidies. Members from all three opposition parties have expressed interest in tabling this bill before the House.

Climate justice is social justice. By uniting new and experienced organizers from different backgrounds, we can overcome the mounting corporate power controlling our political, social, and economic spheres. PowerShift is a chance for organizers of all stripes to do exactly that.
